Cellere’s Museo del brigantaggio
Offers an overview of the territory, the landscape, the culture and history thanks to a specific point of view, able to provide new, although incomplete, interpretations and connections; it’s an acknowledgment of the history and culture of northern Lazio, a homage to a territory that’s been the protagonist of extremely violent phenomenons of illegality and has thus been associated with characters that,
during this land’s transition to modernity, were labeled as brigands; it enhances the social connotations of the protagonist in their involvement in local narratives and conjures up the imagery of rebelliousness: a powerful evocative field, a subversive focal point in comparison to a reconciled reality, a “literary” space, where what matters most are bold moves and clever jokes.
Where the power of poor people takes over, a fantasy that soothes and emancipates lives of hardships, radicalizing experiences of marginalization and inequality; it reinterprets Tiburzi’s epic not as a reaction to modernity but as its manifestation. A unripe fruit that symbolizes how the great expectations of an entire population were disappointed by the events that characterized Italy and northern Lazio at the end of the nineteenth century.
